Yuji Yao holds degrees from Wuhan conservatory of music(BM) and Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg(MM) and is currently studying for a DMus in Shanghai conservatory of music.  He focuses on contemporary music, writing for orchestra and chamber music. Under the influence of natural sounds, music displays the contrast of light and dark relationship of subtle timbre and the fun of complex rhythm through the integration of art form and technology. His music has won many awards for composition. These include: The 9th Shanghai “Rivers Award” (2020), the 2nd Hangzhou “Artino Award” (2021), the 17th Chengdu “Sun River Prize” (2021), Germany “Mitteldeutsche Kammerphilharmonie Kompositionswettbewerb”, Italy “2 Agosto, etc. The orchestral work Fluorescence was selected for the 2021 composition competition between the Hamburg National Music Committee and the Hamburg LJO Orchestra, premiered by the Hamburg National Youth Orchestra. That same year, the orchestral work Bounded in a nutshell was selected and premiered by the Symphoniker Hamburg during the season 2021. The second Hangzhou Modern Music Festival commissioned the work Cold Branch Bird Quiet in the music festival was premiered by Shanghai Contemporary Ensemble. The orchestral work Dove was selected for the 2020 Shanghai Spring International Music Festival and premiered by the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition, he has also cooperated with Mitteldeutsche Kammerphilharmonie, Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra, Hubei University for Nationalities Choir and other orchestras. The score of the work ChuShanGu will be released by Anhui Literature and Art Publishing House.

Born in Taiwan, Tsu-Yao Yang’s works have been performed in Europe, America and Asia, at several festivals such as Gaudeamus Muziekweek, ISCM World Music Days, June in Buffalo, Como Contemporary Festival, International Rostrum of Composers, Festival Contrasti, International Workshop on Computer Music and Audio Technology, MUSICACOUSTICA-BEIJING. He works with many of his generation, but also with the Arditti Quartet, Vertixe Sonora, Appassionato Ensemble, Awkas Ensemble, Keuris Quartet, Ensemble Mise-En, Duo Reflexion K, Ju Percussion Group, 3peoplemusic, Nana Formosa Percussion Duo, Counterpoint Ensemble, Chia Found Music Workshop and Taipei Philharmonic Orchestra, etc. He received 1st prize at Concorso Internazionale di Composizion Appassionato Ensemble, Frederic Mompou International Award and International Phil Winsor Computer Music Competition, 3rd prize at Concurso Micro-Jornadas, International Chia Found Music Workshop Classical Music Composition Competition. His works and study have been supported by Taiwan National Culture and Arts Foundation and Taiwan Ministry of Education. Tsu-Yao Yang began his musical studies with violin and piano. He studied composition at Taipei National University of Arts with Hwang-Long Pan, at Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Boulogne-Billancourt with Jean-Luc Hervé, and at Conservatoire National Supérieur Musique et Danse de Lyon with Philippe Hurel and Martin Matalon.

We would like to inform you the result of the 45th Irino Prize ,2022.
The Selection Committee has been held on November 13, 2022 at the NPO JML Yoshiro Irino Music Institute Tokyo.
Jury of this year: Takayuki RAI(Chairperson), Satoshi TANAKA, Mari TAKANO, Masahiro MIWA, Haruyuki SUZUKI, Rica Narimoto
Total of Entries: 31 compositions, 7 countries
Award: 200,000 Japanese yen (This will be shared between above two winners.)
